China's first plastic lunch box recycling map released

07-10-2024

Which recycling companies do discarded plastic lunch boxes go to? In which provinces are these plastic recycling enterprises located? On September 26, at the 19th China International Plastic Recycling Conference, with the official release of the plastic recycling information interactive platform and the plastic lunch box recycling map, China's plastic recycling industry not only has the first intuitive panorama of plastic lunch box recycling, but also lays the foundation for the transparency and traceability of recycled plastic lunch boxes.

At the launch ceremony on the same day, Yonggang Wang, secretary-general of the Recycled Plastics Branch of the China Materials Recycling Association, introduced that China's plastic recycling industry has developed after more than 40 years, and has built a solid industrial foundation and the world's leading waste plastic recycling and recycling industry chain. However, in the critical period of steadily promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of energy, the need for transformation and upgrading of the recycled plastics industry is more urgent.

In this context, the Recycled Plastics Branch of the China Materials Recycling Association actively responded to the call of the industry, and worked with partners such as the China Environmental Protection Foundation Qingshan Public Welfare Special Fund, the Meituan Qingshan Plan, and the Net Plastic Yangtze River Project to jointly create a plastic recycling information interactive platform and a plastic lunch box recycling map.

According to reports, the design of the plastic recycling map takes into account the function of information display and data statistics, and the enterprise can display the recycling main body, business coverage categories and materials, category sources, contact information and other information after registration. At the same time, the recycling map can also count the number of registered recycling and recycling enterprises, the number of sorting centers and recycling points in real time, and support the amount of recycling and recycling by region and time segment.

Up to now, the lunch box recycling map has gathered 45 lunch box recycling enterprises and 17 recycling lunch box recycling enterprises, covering 23 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government), and more companies that have carried out lunch box recycling or recycling will be registered and displayed on the map in the future.

Yonggang Wang said, "Plastic lunch boxes have certain recycling value and huge development potential. In recent years, the amount of plastic lunch box recycling and the participation of recycling enterprises have been increasing year by year, which has promoted the improvement of the social recycling rate of plastic lunch boxes. The release of the plastic lunch box recycling map will break the information barriers of the industrial chain, improve the efficiency of information communication between enterprises, and then help improve the efficiency of lunch box recycling and promote the development of plastic circular economy."

Tian Jin, project director of Meituan Qingshan Plan, said: "Since the implementation of Qingshan Plan for more than 7 years, the ecological linkage parties have carried out large-scale recycling actions such as' box fusion 'plastic lunch boxes, and set up Qingshan Science and Technology Fund to support the efficient recycling and high-value recycling of lunch boxes, which has been launched in 22 cities in 20 provinces and large-scale garbage classification and lunch box recycling projects. This plastic lunch box recycling map is not only a demonstration of the joint efforts of the industry, but also a starting point for Qingshan plan to link all parties to a new journey toward a plastic circular economy."

Qian Mingyu, Director of the Environment and Circular Economy Department of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), said: "Since the beginning of the implementation of the Net Plastic Yangtze project, we have focused on the recycling of low-value plastic waste, including lunch boxes. Through cooperation with local authorities and local waste management enterprises in Suzhou, the project has gradually built a low-value plastic waste management system suitable for local conditions, and the recycling volume of lunch boxes and other low-value plastic waste has increased month by month. This time, the lunch box recycling map developed together with all relevant parties not only provides a credible basis for enhancing the value of lunch box recycling, but also makes it possible to trace the source of lunch box recycling. We also hope that in the future, this platform can link our colleagues along the plastic recycling value chain in China together to fully support the high-value recycling of low-value plastics."

In order to crack the industry information asymmetry, lack of transparency and other problems, plastic Sinan information interactive platform has also emerged. The platform takes plastic recycling map as the core highlight, covering lunch boxes, PET bottles, electronic and electrical plastics, automotive plastics, flexible packaging film and other categories, integrating cutting-edge information, science knowledge and other rich content, aiming to provide a one-stop, visual information exchange platform for upstream and downstream enterprises in the industry.

"In the future, the plastic recycling information interactive platform will gradually expand category coverage, improve platform functions, and provide more high-quality and efficient services for the industry." At the same time, with the joint efforts and support of all parties, the Plastic Recycling Information Interactive platform will also provide more help for the high-quality development of China's plastic recycling industry, and contribute to protecting the environment, saving resources and promoting sustainable development." "Wang Yonggang said.
