01-11-2024

According to the European News website reported on the 22nd, a French lawmaker proposed to ban plastic bottles smaller than 500 ml, in order to reduce pollution to the environment.

In the view of French MP Cazenove, the capacity of less than 500 ml of bottled water is "absurd existence." Those only 330, 250 or even 170 ml bottled drinks, people only drink a few sips will throw away, but waste 20-25 grams of plastic, causing serious damage to the environment. Cazenov recently submitted a bill calling for a ban on plastic bottles under 500 ml. The bill still needs to be debated and voted on and passed by a majority before it can land. The bill has won support from environmental groups. According to one poll, about two-thirds of French people support the ban.

At least 13 billion plastic bottles are produced in France every year, a large proportion of which are not recycled, and the flow of plastic bottles into the ocean ultimately wreaks havoc on the environment. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), if nothing is done to curb the phenomenon, the global plastic will grow to 1.231 billion tons by 2060, with catastrophic consequences for biodiversity and human health. Although France has introduced a law banning single-use plastic products, plastic water bottles are not covered.

In addition, considering that small bottled water is very suitable for children and travelers, if a total ban is implemented, consumers' lifestyle habits will have to change.
